Reverse Auctions – a New Way to Buy
During the last few years, a new, fun way of buying things you need (but thought you could never afford) has appeared and grown online. Known simply as ‘Dubli’, (dubli.com) this method of internet marketing is becoming popular with all age groups because of the wide range of quality products that are available, and the ease and speed with which they can be obtained without moving from your computer – and for next to nothing in price. Dubli is popular in Europe (where the concept was launched in 2003) and has been rapidly expanding across the United States since September 2008, following a visit from its founder, Michael Hansen.
This is a one-stop shop for anything from a Gucci bag to a new motor vehicle, and everything between. For example, articles on display for auction as this is being written include an iPod nano chromatic 16 GB 4G; a Sony Ericsson K850i mobile phone; a Juicy Couture Leather Toggle Bracelet; a stainless steel Cookware Set; and a $300 gift card from Tiffany & Co. – a diverse range in just a small sample.
Dubli works a bit like Ebay – as an auction. But unlike Ebay, this is an auction in reverse, with bids pushing the price lower, rather than higher! In fact, it is possible to ‘buy’ an item for no dollars at all, which can be a lot of fun.

There are three ways of bidding on Dubli.
In the ‘Xpress’ method, each item is displayed with a start price. You can’t see the actual price unless you place a credit (which costs 80 cents). Placing the credit immediately allows you to see the current price – and lowers it by 25 cents. You can then purchase the item – or wait until it goes lower, then start the process again.
The ‘Zero’ method shows items displayed with a ‘start’ price, which is where the auction began. By placing a credit you cause the price to decrease by 25 cents – and you can see where the current price is sitting. However, in this method, people continue pushing the price down, by placing credits, until it reaches zero. As soon as that happens, the person who has placed the final credit becomes the winner of the auction and can obtain the item for $0.00 (plus shipping fees).
The ‘Unique bid’ method is a little more complicated. The auctions are online for a limited time. You bid in 25-cent lots (e.g. US$2, $2.25, $1.00 etc) and, as before, each bid costs 80 cents. The person who has placed the lowest single bid is the winner of the auction when time is up. In this way it is possible to buy an item worth thousands of dollars for the price of your credits plus a very few cents.
Dubli intends soon to launch a shopping portal to complement its auction site.
You can become a business associate with Dubli, earning money by introducing others to this internet marketing program, or you can just register, buy credits and have fun watching the price decrease for the items you want to buy.
